Statement of intent
The theme for this project is to do with different landscapes which include Urban Landscapes and Sea Scapes, I am going to compare and contrast images from Anglesy & London to show my views on Landscapes. For my initial research I am going to look at a few photographers who capture landscape in their work, this will influence me and give me ideas for my project. For my initial research I am going to research 3 landscape photographers, the first Photographer I researched was Peter Watson. I have chosen Peter Watson because I really like the colour tints on his images which I might use on my outcomes. The second photographer I am going to look at is Grapham Mchperson, like Watson's work he also uses colour to enhance his images and I love the way his images often have fog or mist that makes them atmospheric.I think this is a trade mark of his work. The third Photographer I'm interested in is Nick Frank who uses blocks of colour which I will try to use in my work.
I will start by taking pictures of different angles in Anglesy and then explore different locations in London and possibly Manchester. I also hope to take images at different times of the year and day to capture a changing Landscape. As a starting point I think I might focus on Colour and double exposure edits. As my project progresses I will use Photoshop to develop my ideas, this is an area where I think where I will need to do some research to create good results.
When I take my photos I will be using a DSLR Cannon Camera which I will have on manual mode so I can control the aperture and shutter speed, depending on the weather and light conditions. I will think about focal points and rule of thirds to improve my work

What are landscapes?
''Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic.Landscape photographer typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes''.
Peter Watson

Composition
In this photo the focus point is in the center of the picture, which is created by strong leading lines from the river and cliffs leading to the middle of the photograph which draws your attention to it.He hasn't used rule of thirds because the focal point is in the middle of the image, however the sky is in the top third of the image which makes the cliffs seem big and dramatic. The photographer used a large depth of field in the photograph to capture all the detail in the background. You can see everything in crisp detail and in my opinion I think he would of had to use a tripod to capture such a clear image. I think he has framed the shot very effectively as the trees and cliffs are positioned well. Because the photo is so good, in my opinion I don't think he has had to manipulate it afterwards in Photoshop. If it has been Photoshoped it is very subtle. The Photographer has taken this picture at eye level as if we were stood in the river looking at the view.
context
His work has been published both in the UK and internationally. His work also appears in galleries and exhibitions.Watson worked in advertising and commercial photography,he is also an author and has written many successful photography books. He now teaches lectures and is a photography instructor with VSP workshops.
Comment
In my opinion I like his work because its colourful it shows landscape in a different prospective almost like an image used in an advert, creating a feeling that makes you want to go there. When I look at this image it makes me feel calm and a sense of peace. I think the purpose behind this image is to show the natural beauty of nature and that we should look after the planet.
Connection
Like Watson, I am also focusing my work on the Landscape and want to show the natural beauty of the environment. I plan to go to Anglesey to take images of the sea and like Watson to explore different locations and capture the atmosphere. I also like the idea of not manipulating my images too much as I think nature is beautiful enough and doesn't need filters adding.

Worst
This is my worst picture because the composition isn't what I wanted as there is more sky than hill in the picture,I should have used the rule of thirds to help me frame my shot. I just feel that my focus point was not right.
This picture is also over exposed which means you can't see the cloud shapes clearly. This happened because I did not set the aperture correctly which allowed too much light to come through the lens.

Best
This is my favorite picture because I have used the right camera settings, The exposure is correct and I have used a large depth of field so everything is in focus. I like the contrast of colours, the white clouds and blue sky against the green on the hills. Because my exposure is clear you can see the texture of the rocks which adds interest to the image.

I am going to compare and contrast two different Landscapes Urban & Seascapes. I am going to London in the Summer and I went to Anglesey in the Winter to compare different light sources and atmosphere's. When I went to Anglesey I focused on capturing texture as well as large seascapes.
When I go to London I am going to do the same thing, focusing on both close up as well as large city scapes. I hope to make progress with my project by manipulating my images in Photoshop to improve my outcomes.

Nick Frank
This is my favorite picture taken by Nick Frank,I like the colours he has used and the angle he has captured the building. The texture of the tree stands out in the background, the rule of thirds applies to this photograph because there is a large amount of the flat blue sky compared to the pink building. This composition makes an impact on the viewer as it has a cool and sophisticated feeling. This feeling is brought out more because of the angle it's been taken which brings out the simple shapes
My eyes are drawn to the blue sky because of the colour contrast of pink and blue. The contrast is brought out more by the green tree and the shades of mint on the outline of the building. Overall looking at Nick Frank's pictures he seems to use simple flat colours that makes them look like paintings and scenes from films.
In this image he uses strong leading lines which are created by the shape of the building. The way he has cropped the image makes you focus on the sharp corner of the building. In my opinion I feel this is a close up image and so he has used a medium depth of field. I don't think he had to use a specialist lens to get this shot there is mainly foreground which is the building, the tree is in the mid ground but the background is the flat blue sky.
In my opinion I like the simplicity of this image and the use of flat colours, in particular I like the colour range he uses.
I can use this as inspiration because I like loads of colour in my own work and will use my Photoshop skills and work on my own images inspired by Nick Frank.
I think there is a meaning behind this work which in my opinion is to bring out shapes and patterns rather than having a realistic image. I also think that Nick Frank looks at photography as an art form, almost like his photos have become paintings.

I am researching work of Mauren Brodbeck I am interested by this Photographer because I like how she uses colours in her work and makes her work look unique and exciting, I think their work links to mine because I love colour and I like to be creative with my work she also focuses on buildings which is what I focused on when we went London. I feel her work will influence my progress when working on photoshop by adding blocks of bold colour to my original colour.

Evaluation
The project theme was based on landscapes I enjoyed this project because it gave me a chance to explore both Urban and landscapes I took a variety of different photos and experienced nature in more depth as well as the city. I also researched a range of different photographers that have added unique styles to their work and used them to inspire my work.
The part of the project I enjoyed the most was developing my images in Photoshop, I really liked choosing the colours that linked to the photographers I was researching.I am really proud of my research and how I used it in my own work. I think it has been successful and achieved what I wanted to.
The new techniques I have experienced are the filters in Photoshop. Before this project I was nervous about using Photoshop but I have learnt how to use the tools to develop and refine my outcomes. I also think that at the start I was not sure about the quality of my pictures but now I think the project has come together really well.
What I would like to develop further is my understanding of some of the manual settings when I am taking photos. This will improve my confidence and outcomes further.
I researched Peter Watson because I really liked the style of his work and how he frames his work getting all the angles in his photos, he uses a variety of different locations in his work which inspired me to visit London and Anglesey. I also researched Nick Frank because his work is do with colour and involves different shades of pink which inspired me to do some of my own. The theme of colour really brought out the quality of what I was trying to achieve in my work, it made it look funky and fun but also unique and professional.
Thinking about my project, the only thing I would do differently is to try and take a greater range of photos when I'm out on location, this could broaden out what I could do in Photoshop and give me more options.
Overall I think this is the best project I have produced because I've explored my ideas in greater depth, Starting off by getting a range of different pictures which I manipulated and improved. I've also started to take more interest and pride in my work which inspired me to work harder and reach my target grade.
